The dual blockade of the monoamine transporters helps to restore neurochemical balance responsible for depression and pain. The pain-relieving property of Nortriptyline is due to the noradrenergic inhibition of pain signals in the spinal cord's dorsal horn and descending pain-modulating mechanisms. Nortriptyline is also a sodium channel blocker, which accounts for the pain-relieving and antimigraine effect of this drug.
