Description

A tricyclic antidepressant Amitriptyline is a prescribed medicine that is used in the treatment of depression and to treat nerve pain, back pain, and other pains caused by migraine to prevent migraine attacks. This medicine works by boosting the amount of certain natural substances in the brain that are required to maintain mental balance.

Other than treating depression, Amitriptyline is known to be an effective medication in several other health conditions like severe headaches, posttraumatic stress syndrome, arthritis, painful muscles, neuropathic pain, bulimia, stiff & tender disorder, nerve pain after herpes, etc. It induces a certain chemical messenger called serotonin, a neurotransmitter that the brain transmits to nerves in the body. Serotonin makes contact with brain cells, which helps manage mood and well-being.

Because of its analgesic properties, it may also help in relieving tension & anxiety, boosting energy levels, improving mood feelings, and making better sleeping patterns. It works on the central nervous system and is safe for both adults and children. It is recommended that this medicine is taken regularly to reap its full benefit.
